The Scott Morrison (ScoMo) Liberal Government is bringing fashion designers, manufacturers, retailers and charities together to tackle the mountains of clothing and textile waste heading for landfill every year. We are supporting the Australian Fashion Council to develop an industry-led national product stewardship scheme for the fashion and textile industry, with $1 million in grant funding. With the increased demand for sustainable fashion, the product stewardship initiative will give a market advantage to the Australian fashion industry – including retailers who are already interested in promoting sustainable fashion that provides environmental and social benefits. This fashion collab is all about our commitment to recycling more of what we use. For more information visit:
Australians continue to lead the world in uptake of rooftop solar! 3 million Aussie rooftops now have solar panels installed. This is a huge achievement. Australia’s solar installations are reducing our emissions by over 17.7 million tonnes in 2021, and this will only increase in the future. By getting involved and installing rooftop solar, our community groups, our schools and our families can save on power bills while also helping reduce our emissions. Adelaide's southern suburbs are leading the nation in recycling more of what we use! ♻️♻️ As part of National Recycling Week, the Scott Morrison (ScoMo) Liberal Government is making sure Australia is dealing with our own waste here, rather than making it someone else’s problem. That's why we have banned the export of our waste and delivered $5.35 million - along with a joint commitment of $3.14 million with the Steven Marshall Liberal Government - in funding for the Southern Material Recovery Facility (SMRF), operated by the Southern Region Waste Resource Authority (SRWRA). The SMRF will be able to process more than 60,000 tonnes per year from the City of Holdfast Bay, City of Marion & City of Onkaparinga, with the ability to scale up to service Mitcham & the Fleurieu. By keeping and sorting our own waste here, & recovering as many resources from it as we can, we’ll produce much more recycled material. That means less landfill and more homegrown products made from recycled content. It’s great for our economy and good for the environment.
Remembrance Day services at the Repat are always very special. Today was no exception as we paused to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. We also witnessed the planting of a ‘Lone Pine’ descended from the original Lone Pine tree at Gallipoli & honoured Aboriginal WWII veteran Mr Tim Hughes, an extraordinary soldier from South Australia who was awarded the Military Medal for his bravery. The new gymnasium at the Repat is named after Mr Hughes. Lest we forget 🇦🇺
Did you know that the Scott Morrison (ScoMo) Liberal Government is investing in more than 80 high-tech recycling facilities right across the country? One of these is the Southern Material Recovery Facility (SMRF), operated by the Southern Region Waste Resource Authority (SRWRA). This facility will recycle more waste from local residents in the City of Holdfast Bay, City of Marion & City of Onkaparinga, & as it scales up will be able to support Council areas like Mitcham and Fleurieu. The PM has led the nation on taking responsibility for our own waste, banning the export of waste & recycling, & increasing the capability of our local recycling industry through projects like this one. In March we were both at SRWRA to announce $5.35 million in federal funding for the SMRF Project, which was then added to with an additional $3.14 million from both the Morrison and Steven Marshall Liberal Governments. To mark National Recycling Week, you can check the video we made at the announcement below. 👇
